Dysregulation of lipid metabolism plays a key role in development and progression of metabolic disorders including obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Our group's overall goal is understand lipid metabolism in human and to develop novel approaches for deep metabolic phenotyping.

What you can expect

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate to join our multidisciplinary research team to investigate underlying mechanism associated to dysregulation of lipid metabolism in MASLD. The project aims to elucidate the mechanistic role of lipid signaling molecules in driving hepatic inflammation and fibrosis, and to identify novel therapeutic intervention.

This research will provide multi-disciplinary training as require a combination of complementary approaches, including molecular biology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry and computational biology.

Your Profile

Applicants should hold a master's degree or equivalent in molecular biology, biochemistry, system biology or analytical chemistry and have a strong interest in metabolism. Experience working with mass spectrometry is required and experience working with liver is an advantage. Candidates should be highly organized and capable of working both independently and within the team. Good interpersonal and communication skills as well as fluency in both spoken and written English is essential.

What we offer

We provide the candidate with a supporting and state-of-the-art research environment to develop scientifically and professionally. The successful candidate will be able to work and get training on a multi-disciplinary research project. The candidate has the opportunity to work with pre-clinical models as well as clinical studies.
The position is fully-funded by Swiss National Science Foundation and available from Sep 2025 (or upon agreement).
